Sprout Your World: Ela Green School’s PYP 5 Stars on a Mission!

At Ela Green School, our little learners do not only read about sustainability. They live it! Recently, our PYP 5 stars embarked on an eco-adventure that took learning out of the classroom and into the world. Their mission? To help green the planet one seed ball at a time!

The Magic of Seed Balls

Seed balls are one of the most important tools in restoration and sustainability. These small balls, made up of soil, compost, and seeds of local plants, aim to restore plant life in neglected areas. Our students eagerly learned the science behind seed balls and how they positively impact the environment by minimizing soil erosion and maximizing biodiversity.

Hands-on Learning in Action

With muddied hands and excited hearts, our young environmentalists made their very own seed balls. It was a fusion of science, artistic creativity, and environmental sustainability- a true embodiment of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) philosophy of inquiry-based learning. By doing, conversations sparked, and engaged students discussed topics such as the importance of native plants, sustainable farming, and their role as youthful changemakers.

Having trained for some time now, those small green soldiers set out on the mission to scatter seed balls on specific parts of the land with the hope of stimulating new vegetation. The seed ball became a symbol of a promise, a future anchored on hope and better health.

Preparing Learners For The Future

As instructors at Ela Green School, we aim to strengthen a sense of ownership for the world among our students. Such initiatives help integrate environmental awareness, along with social skills like cooperation, critical thinking, and problem resolution.

As one of the prominent IB Program Schools in Guduvanchery, we practice televisual education, which helps learners in establishing an association with the world around them. This enables us to cater their needs as potential leaders and creative problem solvers who cultivate and champion change in the future.
