PYP 2 Student-Led Conference at Ela Green School: A Celebration of Feelings and Communication

Ela Green School, one of the best CBSE affiliated schools in Kattankulathur, was host to a magnificent Student-Led Conference for PYP 2 students. Amongst the wide range of themes that come from their inquiry based curriculum two were more prominent: Who We Are (Emotion) and How We Express Ourselves (Art).

The SLC exposed the students to perform a MIME, in which, ‘engaging emotion’ and ‘creative expression’ became the focus of the engaging performance. This art form, which relies on non-verbal communication, is a great example of how students were able to explore the performing arts as well as how much emotions go beyond words in expressing and relating to others.

Knowing ourselves “Who We Are”

The theme Who We Are encouraged students to investigate the relevance of emotions in their development of self and interpersonal relationships. Further self-exploration interest and teamwork, which were directed within guided inquiry, made students realize that their emotions determine what they do, the choices they make and others whenever they interact with other people.

Using Action to Communicate

Titled How We Express Ourselves, the MIME performance allowed students to display their remarkable creativity and teamwork with the aid of a variety of improvisational techniques. Students used facial expressions, body movements, and other theatrical gestures to express emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, and empathy. It was a brilliant performance in that they were able to demonstrate how one can express a number of ideas in a non verbally communicative way, which challenges verbalism as the only form of communication.
