Nurture Empathy: PYP 5 Students’ Good Deed
Introduction to the Kindness Activity
At Ela Green School, we value not only academic excellence but also the emotional and social development of our students. The mental health unit is part of our curriculum. Recently, PYP 5 classes participated in a kindness activity that demonstrated how compassionate they were, as well as their community spirit.
Visiting Kannivakkam, Guduvanchery
The event involved going to Kannivakkam, Guduvanchery, where children carried food and clothes to be shared among them. It was not just about giving out things but understanding individuals better and connecting with them.
The community warmly welcomed the students of Ela Green School; one could feel joy and thankfulness in the air. This created a bond, beyond mere donation, thus leaving indelible marks on both parties involved.
Reflecting on the Experience
Thereafter, during reflection time, students were able to discuss the effects of their deeds both in themselves as well as those who got their support. They mentioned sympathetic emotions, comprehension, and fulfillment that were born out of such an act of benevolence.
This deepened their empathy and knowledge about community assistance, stressing the importance of assisting others for mental wellness.
Conclusion
Beyond the school learning experience, our PYP 5 kids have been taught through this kind of action about valuable life lessons. They experienced it firsthand; they discovered mutual pleasure or bonding among other people within a communal society—another meaning behind it all that will stick with them as they grow into adults.
