Highlights from the Recent POCSO Meeting at Elagreen School

At Ela Green School, we put the safety and welfare of our students first. As a way of furthering our dedication to protecting our children, we recently had an important meeting on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. This meeting was meant to sensitize our staff, parents, and community to the criticalities inherent in child protection and the legal framework that deals with child sexual abuse.

We are privileged to have had Mr. Krishna Moorthy as our guest speaker, a distinguished advocate at the Chengalpattu District Court, and a senior counselor with 15 years of illustrious experience in handling POCSO, Malia, and criminal cases. His expertise and dedication to justice make him highly respected, and his insights were invaluable to us.

Key Highlights from the Meeting:

1. Understand The POCSO Act:

The initial part of Mr. Krishna Moorthy’s session gave an overview of the POCSO Act in detail. He noted some key provisions of the act, its significance, and how it ensures children’s safety from sexual offenses. His explanation helped us better understand the legal framework underpinning different stakeholders’ duties, such as parents, educators, or law enforcement agencies.

2. Role Of Schools In Child Protection:

One major topic discussed concerned the role schools play in safeguarding children. Mr. Moorthy underscored the importance of creating a safe environment within school premises. He discussed practical ways that teachers can adopt to notice signs of abuse, if any, thus ensuring security for young people.

3. Legal Processes And Reporting Systems:

Mr. Moorthy comprehensively examined the procedures involved in handling POCSO cases. He described what happens when a case is reported, what happens when it reaches law enforcement agencies, and the processes that follow up. He also talked about reporting abuse channels and why timely, correct information is necessary for justice to be served.

4. Creating Awareness & Sensitization:

Another point focused on during this session was how students should be made aware. Nonetheless, some of the things Mr. Moorthy told us about how to enlighten young people about their rights and how important it is for them to speak out if they feel unsafe cannot be forgotten. He also explained the role played by guardians and teachers in encouraging free communication with children and building trust.

5. Interactive Q&A Session:

Finally, the meeting concluded with an interactive Q&A session that allowed participants to ask questions and seek clarifications on different aspects regarding the POCSO Act and child protection. Mr. Moorthy addressed these queries, drawing from his wide experience and offering guidance and practical tips.

Conclusion

The POCSO meeting at Elagreen School was a significant step towards strengthening our commitment to child protection. We want to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Krishna Moorthy for his invaluable contribution and for sharing his expertise with us. His passion for justice and the welfare of children has motivated us to keep improving safety in a nurturing environment where all our students learn.

As an institution, Elagreen School believes that ensuring the well-being of our children is everyone’s responsibility. We will continue working together with professionals, parents, and society in general as we strive to maintain high standards of child safety.

Follow up with more updates and initiatives as we work towards turning Elagreen School into a sanctuary of safety and excellence.
