Onam Comes to Ela Green School with Colourful Boat Procession, Dances, and Feast


Ela Green School, a leading international school in Chennai, India, celebrated Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, with great pomp and gaiety on September 6, 2023. The festival was celebrated with a variety of traditional events, including a flower boat procession, a Thiruvathira dance performance, and a Pulikali tiger dance.


The Flower Boat Procession: A Visual Delight

The flower boat procession was the highlight of the festival. The students decorated colourful boats with flowers and leaves, and then floated them down the school's canal. The Thiruvathira dance is a traditional dance performed by women during Onam. The students performed the dance gracefully, wearing traditional Kerala costumes. The Pulikali tiger dance is a folk dance performed by men. The dancers wear colourful costumes and makeup to resemble tigers. They danced with great energy and enthusiasm, bringing joy to the audience.


A Festival of Harvest and Hope


The Onam festival is a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate the harvest. It is also a time to remember the legend of King Mahabali, who is said to have ruled Kerala with justice and compassion.
